2017 Ram 1500 Review
When it comes to trucks, the name Ram is often synonymous with brawn. And it’s true, there are few other trucks on the market that can match the sheer muscle and capability of a Ram truck.
The 2017 Ram 1500 is a shining example of just how versatile these trucks can be. To show our Richmond, New Baltimore, and Detroit area customers just what the 1500 can do for them, our team at Dick Huvaere’s Richmond Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (CDJR) have put together this helpful review.
2017 Ram 1500: Performance Specs
In order for any truck to be worth its salt, it has to come with a powerful engine. Under the hood of the 2017 Ram 1500, drivers will find an available 5.7L V8 HEMI®, capable of generating 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. With that kind of muscle, your truck is really going to hum!
Nevertheless, several features have been added to the engine to ensure that it doesn’t burn out on you. For example, a next-generation engine cooler has been added, as well as an available transmission oil cooler. These additions can keep your HEMI® running at peak performance.
To back up that engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission and electronic shifter have been included. These will ensure that your truck responds smoothly and efficiently, so you can get up and go at the drop of a hat.
Towing & Cargo
With all that brawn underneath the hood, it’s no wonder that your Ram 1500 is such a capable towing vehicle. When fully equipped with a cadre of Ram towing equipment, such as the 7-pin wiring harness and Class IV Receiver Hitch, you can tow up to 10,620 pounds.
To make the job easier, several more towing features are available for your truck. To ensure safety, add on the trailer brake controls and tow mirrors. That way, you’ll have optimum stopping power and visibility.
If you’re not hitching a trailer, you’ll still have plenty of room for cargo in the bed of the truck. The standard 1500 box is 98.3 inches long and 51 inches wide between wheel wells, granting you a total of 74.7 cubic feet of additional cargo room.
While drivers can choose to add a bigger crew cab to their truck, the regular cab offers passengers plenty of comfort. Drivers specifically will have a spacious 39.9 inches of headroom and 41 inches of legroom to stretch out in.
Choose to add vinyl or cloth to your 40/20/40 bench seat and to the floors of the truck. While the cloth and carpet can add a bit more softness, vinyl is perfect for wicking away the elements when you go off-road.
Plenty of entertainment features are available in the Ram 1500. A 6-speaker audio system comes standard, but drivers can also add the Uconnect® 5.0 suite. This comes with an LCD touchscreen, SiriusXM® Satellite Radio, USB and auxiliary jacks, and more.
