Ram Truck Towing Guide

Ram Truck Towing Guide

A Ram truck is designed to help you move lots of cargo safely over any terrain. So, what kind of towing capacity do today’s Ram pickups have?

To show drivers in Richmond, New Baltimore, and Detroit what their trucks are capable of, Dick Huvaere’s Richmond Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram put together this Ram towing guide.

Ram 1500 Towing Capacity

Ram Truck Towing Guide The Ram 1500 has a towing capacity of 12,750 pounds. While it offers three powertrains, the engine that allows it to reach its full potential and get best-in-class towing is a 5.7L HEMI® V8 that gets up to 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.

This works with a TorqueFlite® 8-speed automatic transmission that adds to your capability with an eTorque Mild Hybrid System. This includes variable valve timing to help the engine run more efficiently.

You’ll also be able to use this power and the durable truck bed to carry a payload of up to 2,300 pounds.

Ram 2500 Towing Capacity

The Ram 2500 is the first in the brand’s heavy-duty series. It’s able to tow up to 17,980 pounds. Under the hood it runs on a 6.7L Cummins® Turbo Diesel I6 engine. This powertrain gets up to 370 horsepower and an impressive 800 lb-ft of torque.

If you’d like to stick with gas instead of diesel, you’ll still be able to tow up to a best-in-class 16,320 pounds. The engine that can haul that for you is a 6.4L HEMI® V8 that gets up to a best-in-class 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque.

This gas-powered option also allows you to load the most cargo into your truck bed. The Ram 2500 has a Rear Auto-Level Air Suspension that allows it to take a payload of up to 3990 pounds.

While both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission are available for this heavy-duty truck, the automatic allows you to carry the most cargo both in your truck bed and on your tow hitch.

Ram 3500 Towing Capacity

Ram Truck Towing GuideThe Ram 3500 is the largest and most powerful pickup in the heavy-duty series. When properly equipped it can tow up to 31,210 pounds.

Just like the 2500, it offers both diesel- and gas-powered engines. The greatest towing power for this truck comes with a 6.7L Cummins® Turbo Diesel I6 engine. It’s capable of producing up to 385 horsepower and 930 lb-ft of torque.

The gas engine that’s available is a 6.4L HEMI® V8 that can tow up to 16,480 pounds thanks to its 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque.

This truck also sits on a Rear Auto-Level Air Suspension. That gives you the flexibility to haul a payload of up to 6,720 pounds with the diesel powertrain and 7,350-pound payload with the gas engine.
