2018 Jeep Cherokee Review

The 2018 Jeep Cherokee is a compact SUV that can run with the best of the off-road vehicles in the class, while also providing the comfortable, spacious interior and refined road manners expected of this segment.

Drivers in Richmond, New Baltimore and the Detroit area can learn more about the 2018 Jeep Cherokee with our in-depth model review.

The Cherokee comes with a four-cylinder engine that produces 184 horsepower. It mates to a slick nine-speed automatic transmission. The uprated engine option is a 271-horsepower V-6 that offers powerful acceleration and the ability to tow up to 4,500 pounds.

Regardless of engine option, the 2018 Jeep Cherokee has a smooth ride quality and composure in all driving situations, which makes it an excellent choice for a daily commuter. For off-roading, however, the Cherokee offers four different four-wheel-drive systems for enhanced traction, all of which have selectable traction modes for muddy or snow-covered roads, performance or rock crawling.

The Cherokee scored well in federal and independent safety testing. It comes standard with a rearview camera, a full set of airbags, stability control and traction control, but many optional advanced safety features can be added. Automatic high beams, an auto-dimming mirror and rain-sensing wipers are features designed to improve visibility in inclement weather or for nighttime driving, which is helpful for normal driving or off-roading.

Active safety technology features are also available, such as forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, park assist, lane departure warning and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. All of these features use sensors to detect obstructions around the vehicle to protect you from a collision.

The 2018 Jeep Cherokee seats five people in two rows. The seats are comfortable and supportive, especially when you choose the plush nappa leather upholstery, but the cloth, vinyl or leather upholstery options are all soft and high-quality. In both the front and rear seats, passengers enjoy plenty of head- and legroom to stretch and relax for long drives. Many features are available for more luxury and comfort as well, such as heated and ventilated seating, power-adjustable seating and a heated steering wheel.

In the cargo bay, the Cherokee can hold 24.6 cubic feet with the seats upright. When the 60/40-split folding seats are folded down, this area expands to 54.9 cubic feet. The cargo area is flat and wide for the maximum usable space, and the load floor is low. A power liftgate is also available for more loading convenience, and the front-passenger seat folds forward flat for longer cargo.
