2018 Jeep Wrangler JK Review

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler is a throwback to the iconic model from WWII. Separated from the original Wrangler model, the JL, the JK is a pure off-road vehicle with some high-tech features thrown in, as well as many new customization options.

Drivers in Richmond, New Baltimore and the Detroit area can find out what’s new for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK with our in-depth model review.

Performance and Capability

The Wrangler JK comes with a 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of low-end torque. This engine has powerful acceleration for highway driving, as well as the necessary grunt for the most rugged trails and extreme environments.

The road manners are excellent on pavement, but the Wrangler JK really shines when then pavement ends. The ground clearance is exceptional, and there are plenty of low gear ranges to adapt to a changing environment. There’s also a four-wheel-drive system with selectable drive modes and electric disconnect for the sway bars to improve the wheel travel and articulation.

Comfort and Space

The Wrangler JK comes in either two-door or four-door models, though both share the spacious interiors and comfortable seating. Thick bolsters and grippy upholstery keep passengers firmly planted in their seat, along with providing the support necessary for long drives. The head- and legroom is impressive as well, even in the two-door model.

The rear seat can be folded or removed for more space, which gives the cargo bay 56.5 cubic feet in the two-door and 71.6 cubic feet with the four-door. The interior has plenty of small storage areas and durable, easy-to-clean areas as well.

Every Wrangler JK model comes with floor mats, cloth upholstery, a folding soft top, removable front doors, an eight-speaker sound system, a USB port and satellite radio. Standard utility features include skid plates, hill-start assist, rear and front tow hooks and the Command-Trac part-time four-wheel-drive system.

Options like leather upholstery, premium Alpine audio, remote start, heated seating and power accessories are available, but most of the features focus on off-roading. Disconnecting front sway bars, the Rock-Trac four-wheel-drive system with specialized low-range gears, 32-inch off-road tires, locking front and rear differentials and rock rails are available. A trailer tow package with a 4-pin adapter, improved axle ratios and a Class II hitch is also available.

Like all Jeep models, the Wrangler JK can be customized to your liking with exterior accents, paint and trim options, a range of tops and other appearance features as well.
