2018 Jeep Wrangler Review

After only minor changes over the last decade, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler experienced a full redesign for the new model year that improved its performance, capability and features. This modern Jeep is now comfortable and connected while staying true to its roots.

Drivers in Richmond, New Baltimore and the Detroit area can learn more about what’s new for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler with our in-depth review.

The Wrangler comes with a 3.6-liter V-6 that produces 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque and pairs to either an eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission. There’s also a 2.0-liter turbo-four with a 48-volt hybrid powertrain and uses an eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine produces 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque for more low-end grunt.

Regardless of engine, the two-door Wrangler can tow 2,000 pounds and the four-door can tow 3,500 pounds. Off-road-oriented models also come with part-tie four-wheel-drive systems for enhanced traction and capability, as well as some additional utility features like tow hooks and skid plates.

The Wrangler’s design communicates its ruggedness and capability immediately, thanks to a wide track and iconic new fender flares. The grille also falls back at the top, which is an homage to the Wrangler models of the past. Large headlights that merge into the grille and sharper angles round out the overall look, and reshaped bumpers improve the look as well as the approach, departure and breakover angles.

Inside, the Wrangler cleaned up the dash and lowered the window line for more airiness and space in the cabin, while also organizing the technology and instrument cluster in a more intuitive way. There are also several upholstery and top options to personalize the interior and exterior look.

Technology and Features

Several new technology features are available for the Wrangler, including a sharp Uconnect infotainment system with a 7- or 8.4-inch touchscreen. This quick, responsive system has practical layout, a crisp, clear touchscreen and the ability to sync with many additional apps and streaming features. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, satellite radio and Alpine premium audio also enhance the entertainment experience.

Other luxury features for the Wrangler include heated seating, remote start, dual-zone climate control, LED headlights and keyless ignition. Many of its options focus on utility and off-roading, but these features are handy for staying a little more comfortable on the drive.
