2019 Ram 1500 Review
Are you in the market for a new ride? If so, you have plenty of options to choose from. Sedans are popular, of course, but they can feel a little too common and plain at times. SUVs are nice too, but sometimes their sheer size doesn’t exactly match the meager capability they offer. For a vehicle that can offer you the capability and driving experience you deserve, a pickup truck just might be the answer. After all, there’s a reason trucks are among the most popular classes of car in the country.
A tough, dependable truck is the best way to get lots of heavy-duty cargo around on your next job around Richmond, New Baltimore, and Detroit. Pickups like the 2019 Ram 1500 are designed to help you carry a lot whether it’s to a job site or your vacation.
How well does the latest model perform? Dick Huvaere’s Richmond Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram looks at that for you in this comprehensive 2019 Ram 1500 review. Find out if this powerful pickup is right for you.
Ram 1500 Power
There are three powerful engines available for the Dodge Ram 1500. Each one is more than capable of carrying you and your cargo through any conditions.
The first choice is a 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine with eTorque. It uses Variable Valve Timing (VVT) to get more efficient production and better engine output. This engine is capable of generating up to 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque.
The second option is a larger and more powerful 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine that can get up to 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.
The final engine combines elements of the previous two. It’s also a 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine and, while it produces the same horsepower and torque, it’s equipped with eTorque and VVT to get more effective power out of the engine.
All three of these choices are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
2019 Ram 1500 Towing
The best part of having all this power under the hood is that it allows the Dodge Ram 1500 to carry whatever you need for your next job or vacation.
When equipped properly it has a maximum towing capacity of up to 12,750 pounds.
There’s also lots of features to help make your experience towing as easy and safe as possible. Trailer Sway Damping is standard to help you keep everything under control, plus help along your sides too.
The Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Path and Trailer Detection takes your cargo into account before giving you the all clear to safely change lanes.
The suspension can help with both hooking up your trailer and keeping your truck safe during your journey. An available air suspension system counteracts the weight of what you’re towing to keep your truck and trailer level with each other.
Ram 1500 Truck Bed
Having a capable truck bed is just as important as a big towing capacity. The 2019 Ram 1500 was built with that in mind too.
The bed has 61.5 cubic feet of space and is able to carry a maximum payload of up to 2,300 pounds. The same air level suspension helps adjust your truck when you add lots of weight to the bed too.
With the available RAMBox® Cargo Management System, you can carry more than meets the eye with waterproof, lockable storage bins along the sides.
There’s also features like in-bed LED lighting and a retractable bed step for added convenience. You can also add accessories like a bed extender to carry longer items or keep your cargo discrete with an available Soft Roll-Up Tonneau Cover.
The inside of the new Dodge Ram 1500 has been optimized like never before in terms of both technology and comfort. The most striking feature, however, is the massive 12-inch infotainment screen. As the largest in its class, this incredible screen has a lot to offer. You can view everything across the entire screen or split it into two parts, furthering your ability to customize.
From this screen, you can access the innovative Uconnect® 12.0 infotainment system. This includes a navigation feature that’s easier than ever to use, thanks in large part to the sheer size of the map display. You can also get Sirius XM® with 360L that keeps you connected no matter where your adventure takes you.
As if the massive 12-inch screen wasn’t enough, you also have a 7-inch digital cluster display on your instrumentation panel. With full-color, high-definition 3D graphics, you can view all sorts of important information like directions, music track information, truck diagnostics, and more — all in one convenient location.
The touch screen isn’t the only thing inside this truck that’s massive. You also have plenty of space for you and your passengers to stretch out. Up front, you’ll be able to enjoy 40.9 inches of headroom and 40.9 inches of legroom. Your rear passengers have even more space, as the crew cab models offer 39.8 inches of headroom and an incredible 45.2 inches of legroom. The quad cab, on the other hand, still offers an adequate 35.6 inches of rear legroom.
Everyone uses their truck in a different way, and Ram wants you to be able to customize your truck as you see fit. With numerous accessories available, you can do just that, implementing a personality on your pickup you wouldn’t be able to with other models.
Opt for the Off-Road Group of accessories if you plan on taking your Dodge Ram off the beaten path. It comes with all-terrain tires and a skid plate for the front suspension and fuel tank. Front Extra HD shock absorbers are included here as well to withstand the rough terrain of off-roading.
If you’re looking for more utility with your truck, the Trailer-Tow Group of accessories might be more fitting. It comes with power chrome trailer-tow mirrors with fold-away capability that can help you see around wide and long trailers. You’ll also have access to trailer brake control, which allows you to operate the trailer’s brakes right alongside your truck’s brakes without any extra effort.
