2020 Ram 1500 Engine Specs
When it’s time to get to work, you can be sure that the 2020 Ram 1500 has what it takes to get the job done. This truck gives you four different powertrain options to choose from:
- 3.6L Pentastar® V6 w/ eTorque
- 5.7L HEMI® V8
- 5.7L HEMI® V8 w/ eTorque
- 3.0L EcoDiesel V6
These engines all come paired with the TorqueFlite® 8-speed automatic transmission that offers smooth shifts and effortless gear changes.
As you can see above, two of the engines in this truck’s lineup are available with eTorque technology. eTorque is an innovative mild hybrid system that replaces the engine’s alternator with a 48-volt battery-powered motor generator.
Doing this improves performance, efficiency, drivability, and towing and payload capabilities.
2020 Ram 1500 Towing and Payload Capacity
With such powerful and innovative engines hard at work under the hood, it’s no surprise that the 2020 Ram 1500 is a highly capable truck. In fact, when properly equipped, it can tow up to 12,750 pounds.
As for payload, you’ll have several options here for how you carry materials to the worksite or haul bikes to the trail.
This truck gives you the choice between a 6-foot, 4-inch box or a 5-foot, 7-inch box. With the 6-foot, 4-inch box, you’ll have a total cargo volume of 61.5 cubic feet or 57.5 cubic feet depending on your configuration. The 5-foot, 7-inch box gives you a 50.3-cubic-foot cargo capacity.
The Ram 1500 can also reach a maximum payload capacity of 2,100 pounds when properly equipped.
Interior & Exterior: Cab Configuration and Bed Options
With the 2020 Ram 1500, versatility is the name of the game. You can see that clearly from the available Multifunction Tailgate. This feature gives you three different ways to open the tailgate:
- Split doors open
- Tailgate down
- Fully closed
You can keep your tailgate fully closed to keep everything safely inside the bed. To unload or load, go ahead and fold the tailgate down like any other tailgate. Or, you can use the split doors feature to open the tailgate outwards like a door. It has a 60/40 split, so you can open just one door or both.
It also helps you carry even more cargo with the available RamBox® Cargo Management System. These boxes are located in the walls of the bed, above the wheels, and can help you carry smaller items. For example, store your tools inside and then use the included outlet to power them up when you reach the site.
Finally, you’ll have your choice between two different cabins: Crew Cab and Quad Cab. Both seat five passengers, but the Crew Cab gives rear-seat passengers almost 10 inches more legroom.
