2019 Ram 1500 vs Chevy Silverado
If you’re looking for a tough and rugged pickup truck, the 2019 Ram 1500 and the Chevy Silverado are two excellent options. Both pickup trucks offer power, performance, capability, and luxury for the total package, but there are some differences to consider between them.
Drivers in Richmond, New Baltimore, and Detroit can find out more about these pickup trucks with our 2019 Ram 1500 vs. Chevy Silverado comparison.
The Ram 1500 comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 305 horsepower, which mates to a 48-volt mild-hybrid eTorque system for better efficiency. There’s also a 5.7-liter V8 rated at 395 horsepower, which can also be equipped with eTorque. The Silverado offers a 4.3-liter V6, a 5.3-liter V8, and a 6.2-liter V8, ranging in horsepower from 310 to 420.
Properly equipped, the Ram 1500 boasts a 12,750-pound towing capacity, while the Silverado maxes out at 12,200 pounds. Both vehicles are standard in rear-wheel drive and offer optional all-wheel drive systems. They also handle well for large pickup trucks, and though the Silverado has a redesigned suspension for the new model year, it can’t quite compete with the Ram 1500. With the optional air suspension, the Ram 1500 approaches luxury sedan smoothness and handling.
The Ram 1500 and the Silverado each come in extended and crew cab models. They also share soft-touch surfaces, comfortable, supportive seating, and high-quality materials, though the Silverado doesn’t hit the luxury like the Ram 1500. With real wood trim, semi-aniline leather upholstery, and other interior upgrades, the 1500 has elevated interior quality.
The Ram 1500 offers 5-foot-7 and 6-foot-4 bed lengths, and the Silverado offers 5-foot-8, 6-foot-6, and 8-foot bed lengths. The Ram 1500 also offers optional storage bins integrated into the sides of the bed, known as the RamBox®, cargo tie-downs, and a storage compartment for inside the cabin. The Silverado offers tie-downs, but that’s the extent of the storage options for the Silverado bed.
Both the Ram 1500 and the Silverado come with plenty of technology features. Infotainment systems, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration, Bluetooth®, USB ports, navigation, and other features are available for both, giving you access to your phone’s media and providing endless entertainment options. The Ram 1500 offers a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, however, which is the largest in the class and boasts crisp, clear graphics and responsive inputs.
For safety, the Ram 1500 and the Silverado each offer plenty of advanced features that provide additional visibility and alerts to prevent potential collisions. Automatic emergency braking, active lane control, and blind-spot monitors are optional for both.
